Starting Your Day Right

What is the first thing you do when you wake up? A scramble to hit your alarm clock? A regret to how late you’ve slept in?

Being intentional about your morning has made all the difference for me when I wake up. No more sluggishness or yawning throughout the afternoon. Starting the day with a feeling of accomplishment boosts your self image and mood. I will show you how to do this right away with two very simple steps - Water & Running.

The first thing I do when I wake up is drink water. Drinking water right away is a great way to detox your body, and at least for me I can feel it cleaning my system out when I’m drinking it. Staying hydrated is incredibly important for your health. It boosts your mood, keeps you awake, and prevents muscle tension.

Secondly, I run. Immediate exercise in the morning makes a huge impact on you for the entire day. It boosts your mood, wakes you up, and gets your metabolism going. Now this doesn’t have to be too extravagant to get the job done. My running lasts about 10 minutes and is a mixture of jogging and sprints. Other great ideas I’ve tried include push ups, sit ups, and burpees.

There are countless routines you can follow in the morning, and the most important one is the one you do consistently. We all have a long list of things we want to do everyday, but never get to. For me adding one small routine at a time allows me to grow and not feel overwhelmed. I consider myself highly disciplined yet I could never imagine adding a massive list of routines to my schedule all at once. Drinking water and running first thing in the morning has been one of the simplest routines and most beneficial for me, and I hope it is for you too.
